Autumn Family Nature Craft

We all know those little nature treasures that kids find on the trail. The sticks and stones, pine cones and twigs. Well there's a way to continue the exploration once we're home!

By taking those nature finds from the ground or off a bush and turning them into artwork we're allowing the conversation to continue, as well as letting children realize a project from start to finish; and can I tell you it's really hard not to jump in and create with them!

Here are some fun ideas on how to create those collections -- and let me just say watching kids follow their inspirations is the best part!

First assemble the items needed :
Any nature finds -- example: pine cones, leaves , acorns

I'm going to show you two different methods, but please remember the options are endless and I do hope you and your family will explore what works for you!

The Nature Mobile is a winner because it can be added to at any time. A simple design is a stick with yarn tied at the top to hang from. Any amount of treasures can be hung.

Adding multiple levels can bring a lot of interest to the wall hanging. This is really fun for older kids who are into building.

The next type of nature craft I want to cover is really fun too and can have a really therapeutic feel while constructing it. I found myself and countless children somewhat mesmerized by the continuous twisting of the twig.

Simply wind yarn onto the stick. A trick is to stand over the yarn so you can just twist the stick indefinitely, if you want to change colors simply wind the new color yarn on top of the loose strand and continue twisting; or you can tie off any loose strands.

This makes for a fun wand or you can make multiple layers to form a really colorful mobile.

Overall this is a great craft with lots of chances to make the project unique and it's nice to have something on hand that can fit the skill level of any age. Below are a couple snapshots of our event and I highly recommend making this fun and easy craft table at your next party if you need seasonal ideas.

I hope everyone has a safe and wonderful Autumn!
